Whistling; not the kind from that came from lips, or from the kettle over the fire being heated. No—the kind that was the wind rushing past your ears, screeching a warning that you were going fast, far too fast, and you were going down. It woke the bard up, making her flail her arms in the air as she tried to slow the oncoming descent. The first thought that came to mind was: Why am I not in the ship-thingy ma-bobber? Then came: Wait, no, I didn’t spend another day sleeping in the sky where the wyverns couldn’t get me. I had been… Well, she couldn’t remember anything specific at the moment and that wasn’t what mattered.
What mattered was, is that she’s falling, FAST, from pretty high up. Lumi twisted in the air, looking down below her as the ground got closer and closer. **ck, trees. She almost tensed, knowing that this was going to hurt worse than that time she’d been running around in Central Thanalan in the dark and had fallen right over the ledge of Coffer and Coffin. There hadn’t been any stabby trees underneath her that time, just hard sand and humiliation.
She had just enough time to curl up on herself before the trees cast darkness around her and the branches were breaking fast underneath her. She felt each one, rattling her spine and more than likely leaving a bruise as a reminded to not take a fall over a forest ever again. They’d have a good time getting her in the air, period. No matter what kinda yummy food they… okay, maybe once or twice, but that was going to be after a long time.
The trees didn’t do much to slow her descent, and soon she smashed into the ground. Air rushed out of her lungs and she almost blacked out, her mouth opening to let out a screech of pain that made her lips stretch and her back arch inwards in pain. Lumi rolled onto her front and pounded at the ground once or twice with her fist, shaking as she tried to get through the pain. “Fu-u-dge…!” Tears gathered at the corners of her ears and she shut them, trying to block out the sounds that were invading her senses. Forest—forest meant monsters, and monsters meant food and dangit, she wanted something, and she wanted it now. Food would help her recover from this, food solved everything.
Lumi pushed herself up, sucking in air that she was still trying to catch up on getting in. After a moment she got to her knees, then her feet. “Screw airships,” her head tilted back, but with the foliage in view, she couldn’t see what had dropped her. Was she somewhere in the Black Shroud? Her eyes narrowed and she reached up on her head, feeling for her—“My hat!” Lumi cried out, throwing her hands in the air and then wincing. Her back wasn’t going to forgive her anytime soon for this. “Must be somewhere ‘round here…”
That hat was her baby—her identification. Bards didn’t simply go around without a cool looking hat, it was a part of the thing. That and the harp, but that was safely put up and hadn’t been damaged. She’d have to go on a bloody rampage if that had been damaged. Lumi tilted her head and reached behind her back, feeling the absence of her bow. That must be put away then, as well. She took it out, and slid it on her back, the familiar weight reassuring her that she wasn’t entirely on her own. The bow made her back ache, but it was one that Lumi would have to get over.
