Our story begins with travelers from a distant world. They once came to Oephus, though they did not mean to do so, in fact the only reason they ended up in Oephus was because their world was at war and was on the brink of destruction. In the few minutes remaining their worlds most intelligent scholars and inventors had managed to make a dimensional tear, a void, where it lead however they did not know but perhaps it would be better than remaining to see the destruction of a world. Upon taking their chances with that void the travelers had ended up falling in to this new world, in to Oephus.
Upon being flung in to this new world, the void in which the travelers passed through had robbed them of their consciousness, they lost their memories of their home world, and they lost contact with one another as they all descended in different places. Some fell from the skies, some fell from a relatively short height off land, others stumbled through small tears that closed up behind them as they were spat out.
They were however, rescued from where they fell. As even scattered most of them fell in to seas or on to small land masses that were near large towns, villages, rivers or even large cities. Fishing boats, people walking along beaches, explorers and various other types of people rescued the unconscious travelers who fell from the heavens. Only half of the group who made it through the void survived, the ones that didn't had landed on rocks, on trees and various other places that ultimately caused death.

At first these people who fell from the skies stayed unconscious for days, some even weeks but the people who rescued them mostly managed to care for them. A few more of the people died now and only ten remained alive.
What people were not aware of while saving these strangers was the fact that their mere existence in Oephus soaked up the energy of the world around them. Each one having an affinity for a certain element or type of magic and two whom didn't have any elemental attributes but instead were non-elemental magic. These people regained consciousness once they had enough time to rest and recouperate, some waking up earlier than others and it was from this point onwards that they started to get used to the world around them.
They couldn't remember where they were from or how they came to be in Oephus. They simply knew that they had come a long way, for a reason. Once it was confirmed the people were perfectly fine they went off in search of others like them as word came from cities and towns found them that others fell from the skies.

Their travels took many weeks, some even months but eventually these people who fell from the skies united with one another.
They shared stories of their time in these new towns, villages, forests and cities and even spoke of the new races they had encountered. How some were friendly, others were not and the things they had learned thus far in their lives on this world named Oephus.
Having come to a point where their stories now stopped and they had no more information to share, the group simply set about trying to find a place where they could be and this place was to be named Thion.
At first the settlement started as simple shacks but over the space of years they learned to build, craft, they remembered parts of their past and the place eventually grew to look like buildings from their home world. A sight they were more familiar with, a place where they felt at home but this home wouldn't last.

As time drew on they realized something, this world, it's waters, winds, nights, days, people weren't dying and people weren't being born, everything was starting to go out of control. If something serious wasn't done, in time the world would be nothing more than ruins, millions of people would die.
The group cast a vote, three votes were to try and find a way to leave this world, the other seven were to find a way to save it.
And save it they would, for the cries of the people for their deities to help them, to still the seas, stop the harsh winds, to give them day and night as they were before, to stop the heat from being unbearable were heard. These prayers imbued the travelers with power as word and rumor quickly spread that these people, they were sent from the Gods to help them, to save them. This was taken as fact and their faith and prayer was so strong that it gave the travelers just what was needed to push them to what they would become. Deities.
Each of them had an element they were best with, save for two and with these elements the new Deities calmed the oceans, calmed the winds, calmed the heat and brought back the ice caps. Two of the things that needed to be addressed however hadn't. Sleep, life and death and a handful of other issues needed to be addressed. This fell to the non-Elementals. However. One was hasty to pick that they wanted to govern sleep and memory which left only one to govern life, death and the aether flow.

Now that these things had been set in order, the new Deities were worshiped as Gods, making them invincible to harm. However the attention that they got was something they would rather avoid and so they built themselves a fortress in the sky, something that people were amazed by and feared.
They also built a tower on the ground, the tower now known as the Tower (or temple) of Light a place where people could come to worship, a place where people could call on the Gods to solve issues.
Things seemed to be going well, and once the Gods grew bored of life thousands of years on from their initial creation, they simply moved on, handing down their knowledge and wisdom and Aether to ensure immortality in the fact these people wouldn't age or die to those who had proved themselves worthy through challenges and would take their place. The only two who have never changed for the whole time were the non-elemental gods. They didn't wish to die and fade. So instead they tutored the new Gods on their positions, on what they were supposed to do and how to tackle problems when they arose.

Sadly as with all things, peace can never last. People became greedy, they wanted more and more and one town Meia tried to kill the God of Ice for their power, believing if they killed a God they would steal its essence and therefore become like Gods themselves.
Meia lured their patron deity in with their personas and by using the Ice Deities ego to make them feel better about themselves the Meians attacked. This fight should have been over quickly, yet with this new Ice God, they didn't know how to handle their power to the full extent and the battle was drawn out, eventually ending in the God getting injured from an arrow tipped with something that could penetrate the Gods defenses.
With an injured God the others soon came to help carting the Ice Deity away and destroying most of this village. Out of rage, the Meians retaliated, killing the human lover of the Deity of Light to try and prove a point that they would not stop, not until they had the power they sought.

It was then that the Tower of Light was sealed off from the world. It was then that the Deities decided to stay in their small island in the sky. It was then that the Deity of Light kept the doors to the Tower closed so that they wouldn't cause any more destruction and used the Aether as a poison to keep people who couldn't tolerate it away.
Now the Tower sits falling in to ruin with a single village near its base filled with people who are able to stand the high concentration of Aether. The story of creation has become distorted at this point. Some say the Gods were always Gods but forgot how to do their jobs only to remember and help keep the world balanced once more. Others say they're 'aliens' and some simply believe the Gods do not exist and are only myth and legend.
